About Amy

Amy has practiced real estate law with a focus on real estate finance for over thirty years. She advises and represents numerous community and regional lending institutions, credit unions, Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), government agencies and national tax-exempt organizations in all aspects of real estate finance, from loan structuring and loan origination to enforcements, workouts and restructurings. Amy offers clients expertise and experience to efficiently accomplish their financing goals.

Her commercial lending clients finance the acquisition and development of shopping centers, office buildings, apartment buildings, residential subdivisions, condominium projects, mixed use developments, gas stations, hotels, charter schools and affordable housing projects qualified for investment tax credits. In addition, Amy represents a number of mission-driven lenders, including not-for-profit lenders lending to the charter school communities and low-to-moderate income housing projects.

In representing more than a dozen commercial banks in the Mid-Atlantic region for over twenty years, Amy brings a wealth of experience to the structuring of loan transactions, the documentation and closing of loans, modifications and workouts. Amy’s expertise extends to drafting and negotiating forbearance agreements. Amy’s experience through the highs and lows of the real estate market allows her to share experiences and perspectives.

Many of our real estate transactions involve tiered financing and multiple lenders, resulting in the drafting and negotiating of complex intercreditor agreements, co-lending agreements and subordination agreements. Many of Amy’s clients are national in nature and she has been involved with financial transactions involving properties around the country. She has helped clients establish lending platforms, which involved the preparation of loan documents for application in the client’s lending program.

For our real estate developers and investors and business clients, Amy has structured and managed private offerings, joint ventures, general and limited partnerships and limited liability companies for new companies. With an MBA in addition to her J.D. degree, she brings an understanding of business issues to our clients. Amy’s primary strengths are finding practical resolutions to roadblocks, earning the trust and respect of borrowers, and meticulously weaving all the minutia of the deal into the final documentation.

Before starting her own firm in 1997, Amy practiced with Willkie Farr & Gallagher and Shaw Pittman Potts and Trowbridge (now Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman) in their Washington, D.C. offices. She received Bachelor degrees in Economics and Chemistry from Duke University in 1984 and her J.D./MBA from Georgetown University in 1990. Amy is admitted to the bar in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
